Sheila, mahjong instructor

Sheila

I'm Sheila, the instructor behind Charm City Mahj, and I specialize in teaching brand-new players how to feel confident playing American Mahjong.

Students often tell me they appreciate my relaxed, encouraging teaching style — the way I break things down clearly, keep the table light with humor, and create a space where players feel comfortable, welcomed, and able to learn at their own pace.

My goal is always the same: to make Mahjong approachable, joyful, and something you look forward to playing again and again!

Liz, mahjong instructor

Liz

I'm Liz, and I confess that I'm obsessed with mahjong! I began teaching the game to others as a way to share my enthusiasm for the game and to bring together new groups of people that enjoy playing. I get excited about breaking down the fundamentals of the game for those who have never played and for helping beginners gain confidence through guided play.

As much fun as mahjong is to play, it's also a great excuse to get together with friends and meet new people. I personally find such happiness through talking, laughing, and playing with friends in my own weekly games. My goal as a teacher is to help people learn the game quickly so that they too can start playing and connecting regularly with their friends and others in the mahjong community.

My passion for mahjong took hold the moment I sat down for my very first lesson. What started as a simple desire to learn and play with friends soon grew into something far greater — a vision to create a space where our community could gather, learn, and experience the magic of this incredible game together.
